The Discovery
Earth Discoveries started with a fascination I’ve had since childhood.
I was the kid who was obsessed with rocks, minerals, fossils and anything that offered a glimpse into our planet’s past. That fascination never really went away — and now, as a parent, I’m getting to experience it all over again through my own children.
My partner and I have lived in Gisborne for a number of years, where we’re raising our two beautiful children. Their curiosity is contagious. Watching them explore, ask questions and get excited about the natural world inspired me to create the kind of product I wish existed when I was a kid.
That got me looking at hands-on STEM activities involving fossils and natural history. While the experience of excavating a real specimen was always exciting, I felt the payoff afterwards could be better. After all that excitement of uncovering something millions of years old… what happens to it next?
That question became the idea behind Earth Discoveries.
What if the fossil, mineral, or other specimen you excavated became something worth displaying?
Our kits are designed around the excitement of discovery, but they don’t end there. Once excavated, your specimen can be placed into its own museum-style display frame — turning a hands-on learning experience into something kids and parents can proudly display, treasure and keep.
Earth Discoveries is also about making Earth’s natural history accessible to everyone. You shouldn’t need to visit a museum or study geology to experience the excitement of holding something millions of years old. We want to bring real fossils, minerals and other natural specimens into homes and classrooms, giving more kids the opportunity to explore our planet’s incredible story for themselves.
